The distinction matters because a learner’s progress is directly tied to the quality of the feedback their instrument provides — a controller with imprecise jog wheels, cramped pad spacing, and inadequate EQ control slows skill development by making correct technique feel identical to incorrect technique, removing the tactile and sonic feedback that accelerates learning. The Mixstory Core’s 140mm jog wheels are substantially larger than the 80mm to 100mm platters found on the cheapest entry controllers, providing the real estate for accurate scratch and pitch-bend technique that small platters cannot deliver. The jog surface features the same capacitive touch sensitivity used on Mixstory’s higher-tier controllers — distinguishing between touch-on-surface (scratch mode) and touch-on-rim (pitch bend mode) based on contact location rather than a separate mode switch.
